So nice and cute. Very relaxing, with so charming art. Really nice.
If anybody gave this game a pass before, the creator recently updated it with an english translation. The link here looks like it has the new version, and he also posted it here: https://konoe-anim.itch.io/sepia-and-the-magical-book if you want to download it without a pixiv account.
It's a pretty cute game, and I think the translation helps (especially with the second ending).
NOTE: Guide & discussion thread for this game available here.
Anyway, it is a very cute game! For a game with this kind of drawing style, I have never seen one focusing on TF so purely before! Big thanks to konoe, you did an amazing job!
Was able to get through it and see the final ending before Windows Defender "helpfully" removed it. This appears to be a false positive, but it is worth noting it got flagged.
At any rate, it's a cute little thing! It is a bit slow-paced, which might not be to everyone's taste, but I think sorta fits the tone of the game. There's a good variety of transformations, though not quite as much in transformation effects-generally speaking it's a "less mobility and offense" across the board for most of them, with a few more pronounced ones here and there. It's an easy enough game to get through and see most of the content of, with the side content to get to the second/true ending being a little tougher-though only a little bit. Without speaking Japanese I"m honestly not 100% sure how I triggered some of the things needed for progression (unlocking 3-? and getting the guy in 1-? to start moving about the levels), but once that happened most of the things necessary to find the hidden items for the final ending were just "here's an added transformation to make things a little more difficult." No big deal, usually.
As someone who's played maybe a few too many platformers in my life, it never gets particularly tricky-there's one level where you can rack up quite a bit of damage before the boss if you're not careful, but that's the extent of it-but I still liked it. I'll admit to a weak point for transformations-as-status-effects that actually influence mobility, and this game ain't bad at it.
I do wish there was a little more variety to what the changes did (for instance, only one has a unique attack, the rest are all just stuck on the weakest basic shot, unable to pick up powerups), and I do think it's a bit unfortunate that by the end of the game I seemed to be locked out of quite a few of them. As it is, though, it's a fun little diversion and a nice installment in a sadly-underrepresented genre as far as transformation goes.
A very cute game with a whole lot of charm to it. The transformation content is pretty good for how simple and relatively straight forward it is, and the gameplay itself is actually pretty fun. Seriously wish there was a translation out and about for it, but I managed to bumble through well enough.
I didn't even realize there was what seems to be what one could call a sidequest until after I beat the game, though i've become stuck on it on one part. Can't seem to find how to get the non-suit penguin transformation outside of the last stretch of the game eaither.
