The Pen is Mightier
by qazpllp

Heavily inspired and occasionally lifted from Hito's "Mightier than the Sword" (https://www.tfgamessite.com/?module=viewgame&id=683)

A new character finds the pen they say can only write truth. What kind of interesting events will you create?

All changes to the note have an effect on other events. Try them out. See if you can unlock the good ending.

Want to unlock the good ending? Make sure your family is chauvernistic, your sister scored an A++ on the national maths test, and your mother is CEO of the company

v1.0.0:

Much like the inspiration behind this game, I was amused by how it played out but I agree that there seems to be something missing from it.

The alterations that you make don't come with any follow-up description of the change afterwards when you "commit" the choice(s). Reality warps immediately and what is written is fact; sure I get it, but I'd love it if there was more to it (even if it is considered a fast change) for your avatar's reality perception. Think of it as like from the first Butterfly Effect movie when the main character's brain sudden received new information to match the time reality shift.

I understand though the changing of the bra size thing; genetics running through the family and all that. Much in the same way the note calls out the attitude of the family if you alter that: everyone is changed. But I do agree with the point that the minimal description changes behind some of the choices (i.e. to use an example from past reviews, bra size) only is noticeable at the extremes. Attire is another one.

I don't mind that you dropped the "puzzle" element for your version of this game world. You're telling a story that has multiple potential ends from the choices you make and that's it: none of them are really "bad" endings, just unfulfilled ones. And there is the one "best" ending, but the writing of it comes off short too.

Much of these comments are just niggles. I like this game world design idea and think that it has a lot of potential and your simple game ticks many of the fun interaction boxes.

But after completing it for all of the endings to see the reality warping scenarios, I just found myself wanting more of it and to have a central story path to be following rather than a series of events occurring because of word play with little end consequence.

Still, I do recommend this game. And I want to see more of it as a longer story.

I like this concept.  I can't help but feel this execution is lacking.

When you change details there's hardly any description of the changes you've made.  While changing the note from Son to Daughter seems like a sensible way to make the player think "ha I'll put it all on my sister" and end up making it "oh I'm a girl!" But there's no reactions, no sense of consequence, I didn't initially realize any change had taken place.  Even a difference in breast sizes is almost completely irrelelvant unless you go with massive.

I also agree with the idea that it's weird that changing your sister's bra size changes yours, unless you wrote in something about your "brother" and you realizing this was actually your room.

Another issue is that unlike the game this is based on, there's no puzzle.  Changing reality doesn't seem to help accomplish anything.  It's just playing with the details in reality.  This would be far more interesting if the player used the note, to make his/her way through a school day.  Using the potential changes to alter circumstances in their favor.  Use some kind of driving motivation for the player to actually change themselves to female, just to get out of some kind of trouble so they have some kind of motivation for doing so.

It's an idea.  It's not terribly well executed and there's hardly anything to it.  But it's one more exploration of this game mechanic which could prove interesting in the future.

so, changing your sister also changes you? Does that mean you ARE your sister or something? This needs explaining

Interesting potential even if right now there's not a lot there. The MtF is so minor I honestly can't find it. I suspect its when you change son to daughter you turn into a girl but considering the changes it causes to your sister it could also be changing who the note refers to from you to your sister.
