Rosset High School is cursed. The powerful spirit of its patroness demands an equal number of girls and boys. She transforms additional students to fit her expectations. It seems that the spirit also feeds on the students' emotions and feelings. Some students learned how to communicate with the patroness and make deals with her.
In The Parity, you take the role of Paul, an 18-year-old young man who was nominated to transform into a girl by his classmates. Such a possibility is not the only danger he has to challenge. Luckily, he has devoted friends (maybe even more than friends) who could help him even in the worst of circumstances.
The Parity is a CYOA game with mechanics based on the Approaches. The outcome of many actions depends on the way Paul solved the earlier problems. Paul is a premade character with his own interests and thoughts, the game has a narrative structure, however, I plan in the future some looser, more sim-like moments.
The published version is an early alpha. There is available Prologue, and Chapters 1-12. Chapters 13-14 are available for Patrons on Patreon and SubscribeStar. The current free version is 288k words long, the Patreon release has 343k words.
I try to release new updates monthly.
You can't get stuck in the game. You'll always get some version of the story. Some paths are harder to find than others. After the end of every chapter, there is a summary where you could check what have you missed.
The more detailed walkthroughs are available to supporters of the game on Patreon and SubscribeStar.

I think it is undeniable that this game has extremely good writing, and fantastic technical design. The immediately engrossing premise and sheer amount of replayability I found in the first two chapters alone elevates this game to one of the best on the site.
With that said, I completely hated my time with it and do want to warn folks about some of the plot elements of this game. This is an extremely dark story, and while the plot premise could strike one as not being inherently so, the narrative quickly makes it clear that the entire high school is basically highly traumatized and living in an incredibly stressful environment, one that adults are powerless to help them with due to magical means. While I can handle dark premises, my enjoyment really started to dropoff when a female character I identified with and was attached to was forcibly turned into a man against her will and in a way that was obviously extremely traumatizing for her, despite her efforts to put on a brave face.
I wasn't even able to look past that and focus on the transformation of the main character, which is obviously one of the main appeals of this as a TG game. With RPG's like this I tend to enjoy roleplaying as male character who is initially hesitant or rejectful of their transformation, but either secretely wants it or eventually comes to love it. Yet this was basically impossible because within the first chapter a male character more or less explicitely states that they will rape the main character once they transform into a woman, and the main character also has personal experience with other transformed characters being pyschologically and sexually abused after their transformation. Under those circumstances, it is completely illogical for the main character to in any way want to become a woman, therefore basically forcing me into playing a non-con route, something I absolutely hate.
The game does make it clear that this story can play out multiple ways, and its possible that different choices may negate some of the above, but I played the game without a walkthrough and by making choices I found logical for both my character and my roleplay, and wound up with the above result. I do not want to have to check a guide and replay multiple times to try and minimize the darkness in a game that clearly has that element tied to its very core.
For people who like very dark stories and/or enjoy non-con, this is probably one of the best games on the site for you. For people like myself who don't, I strongly advise avoiding this game. I found the content I encountered to be deeply disturbing, and while I again want to give the author credit for their obvious talents and incredible technical achievement, I really wish I had never downloaded this game.
One of the best game I have found here. Shame it will probably never get finished.
Great read, too bad that the creator seems to have abandoned this game/story.
Is there going to be an update? If you could add Rend or something it'll perfect
I think this concept is brilliant and is one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had with a game on this site. My main criticism is that I discovered this site and this game a couple of years ago and there just hasn't been much progress to the story in a long time. When I find a game that really appeals to me I want it to progress and end in a reasonable time frame.
I know that the makers of the games offered on this site are most often learning as they go and usually just start out with a concept but no real idea of how much work and how long it will take to complete. For most games that are just frivolous "wankfests" it doesn't even matter if they conclude. Games like The Parity that have a great concept AND great writing are rare and that is why it is frustrating that it is taking so long to develop.
I've just checked back here since it is listed under recently updated games and I read comments about the game being too dark with bad things happening. This site, and others like it, contain numerous (majority even) games focusing on rape, degradation, corruption, and other not so positive aspects of sexuality, so it is somewhat surprising to read the post about how dark this game is. I feel it has dark moments but those elements are not gratuitous like in most games. They fit into a mature and interesting story.
I also read the author's response including the reference to Stephen King. I'm older so my comparison would have been a more adult Twilight Zone, which was a show that presented stories that were usually just slightly outside the realm of possibility...yet close enough to be relatable.
