This was my entry for the storybook contest: based on Clark Ashton Smith's Sorceress of Averoigne (1931).
lashek has just called the contest, and named the places and the "runner up" game.
Not this game, of course. I thank everyone who has voted on the game.
The main game is complete now (other than some art to be added later), the bonus game is still in the works.
As usual the patreon link takes you to the Patreon page of my friend, Pervy Sage, who has taken the commission for the art that will be added to the game next month.
I have some problems with mega at the moment, but I hope the update link works.
I have posted a googledrive link, and a mega link.
You are a young man in the last year of highschool: a gamer who loves his RPGs (fantasy tabletop role playing games). Your stepsister, Anne, and her best friend Bella want to go to the mall; Bella's mother arranges for you to help each other out: you drive the girls to the mall during Fumigation Week and they game with you.
The scenario that you will be playing is, of course: The Sorceress of Averoigne.
What could possibly go wrong?
You: a nice if nerdy gamer and assigned driver
Anne and Bella: your stepsister and her bestest friend, and your co-gamers
Your father: the silent type, and the local mortician. Off for couple holidays with your stepmother.
Your stepmother: Anne's mother, owner of the car. Off to mend her relation with your father.
Mrs. Meyers: Bella's mother and improptu director (game master)
Your stepuncle Fin: a big man with big appetites; knows many bad jokes.
500 000 cockroaches: the reason for Fumigation Week.
People at the Mall, including a promoter, a madam, a pimp, a fat lady, a hairdresser, a cop, his daughter, several werewolves and others
People in Averoigne, including the heroes: a sorceress, her master, her apprentice, two knights, two squires, several men at arms and others.
Several pathes are parallel: try different choices in the mall to meet different people everywhere.
- If you do not read the -cursed- inscription in the solo dungeon you can go (back) to the east upper room and loot the treasury: just for the fun of it.
- Hair: your haircut is for mood only. I do not like long hair, personally, so you can get a nice pixy cut. If you like long hair, that is an option, too.
- If you negotiate with Mrs. Meyers she will grant you a boon: to ask her advice once, later in that week. That will help you when you meet the Sorceress.
- If you hang at the foodcourt much -with a bad reputation to boot- the mall guard will take increasing liberties with you.
- You can read more Clark Ashton Smith, find hints and meet a nice nerd in the Comic shop.
- If you wander the mall you can find the sex shop that may play a role later if you are interested in whoring yourself.
- Also, if you wander the mall you can meet a lively kid: that will open the werewolf path where you can meet several of them (and maybe get help if you help the kid twice).
- The third person to meet in the mall is the big man -a cop, as he tells you- that will open another path with a little surprise for those who like doing undercover work.
- There will be up to three magicians near the food court, two of them may like you more than you want them to...
- If you annoint the knight, the squire and the men at arms in the RPG round, one of the two knights will treat you a lot better than otherwise when you meet the Sorceress.
- The businesswoman that you can gain as a maid client is someone dear to you: but that is just something that you can find out if you take wild guess when naming the Sorceress.
- The jade pendant that you may get will open an option in the bonus game.
I have added Wednesday (the day) and started Wednesday night: writing takes almost as much time as the game covers since there are branching options for spending the day.
I have corrected a code error -thanks to JaradLichLord- that allows one to ask Mrs. Meyers a question without getting her promise to do so. I have not yet found why there would be a blank screen after naming the sorceress.
Update 2: Another day. The night will be in the next update.
Changed F2M (which is wrong) to M2F, thanks to Mono.
Update 3: I am trying google now instead of mega.
Otherwise this is a small update: Thursday night.
Update 4: The main game is finished now; the bonus game is still in the works.
Please leave comments and feedback in the gamethread.
The main character CAN get pregnant in the main game, but there are only hints implemented since this is the first week. When I complete the bonus game, there will be more pregnancy content, and then I will add the pregnancy tag.
Update 5: A small update with a loop undone and a first list of "pathes".
Update 6: Now that I have officially been thanked for taking part in the contest without any noteworthy results (usually the rankings are listed) I can update again. Here is the first update with art: for now just three portraits of the main character.
I remember when Blauz first started making games on this site. Many of those games suffered from being disjointed, writing that suffered from the language barrier, and the assumption that players knew what he was talking about. The end result was that some of his early work was har dto follow and didn't always flow naturally.
Since then, Blauz has improved in leaps and bounds while building what might be the most impressive sized game galleries I've seen from any single creator. All the while, he's improved his language and presentation a little more in every project, until he's become what I consider to be an above average creator.
In addition to that, precious few people complete the games they create, and Blauz has a track record of creating complete games that can usually be enjoyed in a single sitting.
As for Fumigation Week; I found this one to be rather enjoyable, roleplaying is a hobby near and dear to my heart, so the game immediately drew me in on its premise. The plot is solid, the writing is some of the best I've seen from Blauz, and I can honestly say that I had a lot of fun playing, and replaying it, to explore the options available.
Plot: 9/10
Visuals: 6/10
Presentation: 8/10
Writing: 7/10
Overall enjoyability: 8/10
If you're looking for a game to play and have an hour or two to play it, this would be a good choice. It's an enjoyable little romp that will be well worth your time.
I have played many of Blauz' games, and they keep getting better. I picked this up too late to vote for it in the contest, but it's definitely worth playing.
Blauz is one of the most diligent authors on this site. He is creating stories over years and I'm pleased to see how he gets better each time.
