Its a simple "game" and it is complete. It is also clean and free of obvious bugs. However, it is completely linear and suffers from the same problems as its predecessor "Mirror"
1) the mouseover trigger is very easy to accidentally trigger causing transformations to occur when they are not wanted. Further this can lead to the player not being able to read and experience all of the transformations.
2) the mouseover trigger makes this game unplayable on mobile devices or for anyone not using a mouse.
3) there is no indication when a transformation line is complete other than running your mouse through the field multiple times to ensure no other changes are available.
3) This is less of a game and more of an interactive passage that displays a fundemental technology features of javascript and html.
It also has a completely separate file for each character which is unecessary as their could be a variable selector for which character story you wish to play. This design choice leads to the player having to open each file separately to get the replayability experience of the different stories rather than simply restarting the game. so be prepared to spend extra time opening and closing windows if you want to read all four passages.
Gameplay 0.5/5
There really isn't any gameplay and the passage literally is only a demonstration of the character changing before your eyes. However the mechanics are well executed without bugs.
Graphics/visuals 0/5
This is a text only game which would usually net this a 2/5 but considering the passages are each less than a page of on screen text and the game is split into four self-contained files I couldn't see awarding those points.
Design 3/5
I find the design choices questionable but they are well implemented and easy enough to read.
Story 2.5/5
4 self-contained non-interacting passages with no outcomes byond the transformation do not make for a compelling text based game. However, the writing is clean and free of errors.
Overall 1.5/5
I would say that this should not be termed complete but rather as a demo for a game that will expand later that can include stories about how each round of changes alters the characters life, how the more they change the more compelled to look into the mirror they are, and the more that compulsion gets in the way of them living their lives. I would also appreciate if the stories either became selectable inside the same file or if they became interwined in a non-linear storyline.
I am a huge fan of ST and this is a eally fun little game! I hope we can get a lot more characters!
Very good game! Super linear and relatively short, but its a good twist on an old game! I wish I knew how to make something like this.
