Transgate is a parody of the Japanese Famicom version of the of the game Shadowgate, which was originally released on the original Apple Macintosh. This game was made by Yonyon and English localization was done by kmalloc. Yonyon, the original author, has no affiliation with either me or this localization. You also don't need to have played the original game to enjoy this one.
You are the True Hero. Your male form was stolen by the Warlock Lord, and your only means of returning it are by facing him in battle in the Castle Transgate. As you step through the door, a threatening voice warns you that you will soon face your end…
A nice and short game (~0.5-1 hr playtime) that is puzzle focused and small amount of trial and error. TG elements are mostly text only, but it is woven into gameplay well. kmalloc did a well-done translating job as usual. Overall it's a good time killer, if you want to expand your brain without looking for coom
It's a nice puzzle game, but it's exceptionally easy to miss a key detail / interaction, causing one to become quite stuck.
Walkthroughs for the original game can help a tiny amount, but we really need someone to sit down and adapt a guide for this retelling. Forums and so forth can only go so far, especially when it's very rare that the current location's name is shown to the player (unless I'm missing something obvious).
TFs are largely descriptive, but sprites are occasionally used. Overall it's a not-so serious exploration. Add a walkthrough / hint guide for this version and you'll have a hidden gem. (It'd be a shining gem if I could find the darn thing!)
