At a technical level, this game is very good. The creator deserves all the praise received for this. Even though it's not going to occupy much space here, I would like to emphasize that the game is excellent in this regard.
At the same time, I find the story completely unreadable. This is not because the writing is technically "bad." In fact, it's much better than the average game here. Rather, it's because of the same positivity that others praise in this game and games like it. For me, the effect of this positivity is uncanny, closer to a smiling plastic double with empty eye sockets. It doesn't seem earned; it's just already "out there." While this wouldn't be a bad thing in reality, I just don't find anything to invest in.
The problem, I think, fundamentally results from the voluntary nature of the transformation. When writing a voluntary transformation plot, the author has to find some "good pretext" for any perceived contradiction to be felt by the protagonist (and reader) between means and ends, both to motivate the character to act and to create conflict. If the pretext is too much a pretext and the obstacles too meager (judgments always dependent on the reader to an extent), the story comes across as a paltry excuse for wish fulfillment. This is in part what the "involuntary" aspect of many transformation games is intended to resolve.
While there are elements of wish fulfillment in the vast majority of games here, straightforward wish fulfillment is not interesting to read, in the same way that each happy family is alike and "heaven is a place where nothing really happens." Some readers will be less sensitive to this issue, and they should still be able to enjoy the game. For those like myself who are sensitive to this issue and who find the wish fulfillment element too thinly disguised, you may equally find the story impossible to read.
Normally, I would just skip a game like this and move on, but I get the impression reading through reviews of this game and others like it that the positivity is costless, with little or no effect on reader reception, when this very much isn't the case.
This is one of the best games on the site already, it nails what makes the genre so good in general, and doesnt take itself too seriously.
Fantastic start for the game! Potential is great, in pretty much short amount of time.
This is my kind of game! The positivity and non-judgmental attitude of the supporting characters is really comforting (especially the girlfriend) and the narration and dialog are lots of fun. The crisp design and user-friendly UI are icing on the cake. It's clear a lot of effort has gone into this and, as a game dev, I am honestly envious. Thanks for the enjoyable experience. I look forward to more!
Really promising start, wonderful artwork!
One issue I encountered is that the case of the images and folders used is not consistent. This works on Windows but does not work on *nix based OS's. Please make sure to use the same case everywhere.
