How to be Popular
by kimberly rex

"How to be Popular" is a TG game by Kimberly Rex, created for the March 2009 contest.

The game follows High School senior Brock Hudson on his quest to become the most popular guy in school and win the affections of his dream girl, Angie McMillan.

The game begins as the Brock sets out to increase his status at the school by pulling pranks, talking to friends, and generally trying to be a “cool guy.”  Eventually, Brock accumulates enough popularity to earn the attention of Angie, who invites him to meet her in a secluded secret pool beneath the school gym.

However, once there, Angie reveals that she’s unimpressed with Brock’s antics, and intends to punish Brock for his selfish ways.  She forcibly transforms him into Brittany, a female version of himself, and tells him she’ll only return him to normal once he’s become “the most popular girl in school.”

Brock, now Brittany, then has to navigate Bearville High as a girl, hoping to become popular enough by Prom to earn his life back.

Brock Hudson

Brock Hudson is the viewpoint character, whose goal is to become the most popular guy in school and date Angie McMillan.

Angie McMillan

Angie McMillain is Brock's ultimate goal, and ultimate antagonist.

I just woke up at work and felt the need to say something nice to someone who deserves it before going back to duty so I decided to write a review for one of those all-time great games this site offers.

"How to be popular" is a question the player has to answer twice, once for the jock of a high school (it's all r-rated, so fear not: also you will be going to your prom at the end of the game and ergo should be 18+yrs old anyhow) and a second time after being too successful.

It so happens that one has questionable things to be popular as a guy: that is because popular means: "the greatest and bot most feared and admired ...fornicator matris".

The game is free of bugs and errors, written well both in grammar and style and allows an easy dancing through the adventures of our dear popularity-seeker. Being a rags-game one can go back to other places, but not in time.  So a safe here and there will ease the play if one chooses to go free-climbing rather than consulting the very helpful walkthrough and the hints in the thread.

All in all this game is highly enjoyable and a must have.

I would plead fo Kimberly Rex to be kidnapped and forced to build more games, but that would be unethical.  As it is, the good person build quite a few and made sure they are all fun; so we will have to make do with that.

It's not possible to get anywhere without acting like a total jerk towards some totally innocent school boys. That ruins it for me, not only is it disgusting, it's also totally alien to me so there's no way I can identify with the main character or even the scenario.

So I'll skip this one. I'm sure others will like it though. The part I could get through before I hit that block looked really promising.
