Runes of Chaos

Runes of Chaos is a RPGmaker VX Ace game which I created based in some ideas I submitted to Goldendawns now defunct Church of Change.

With this game I'm trying to create a classic style JRPG with transformation elements.

It is a bit light on the TFs at first but It gets better later.

I'm also trying to add relations values between the main character and several NPCs these will affect several aspects of latter versions of the game, especially the ending. Check the included gift tutorial to know more.

Great game ends just before the climax, great job all around lots of depth as said here before.

v0.4.4.1:

There is surprisingly a lot of depth to this game. The primary story is straight forward in that you are looking for your lost wife, but as you go through the game there are many side missions you can find along with potential transformations along the way. There are A LOT of hidden pathways in the game so far and this is definitely one of those "Guide Dang It" games where unless you are being absolutely obsessive compulsive about checking in on everything  multiple times and backtracking everywhere, you can easily miss it.

Graphics in the game are average fare for RPG Maker, music and sounds are the overall defaults, but this game really shines on interactivity: there is a hell of a lot to explore and find in this game. Transformations are well hidden at the start of the game, which seems to have fooled a lot of other reviewers, but they ARE there. The bulk of the transformations start coming into the game naturally later following the introduction mission and getting on to Whiteleaf. There are multiple endings in this game and, sadly, some bad endings that you won't realize you're on the path for until it's too late. Keep multiple saves going because you'll be save scumming a lot once you realize you're on a bad ending path.

There are a couple of walkthroughs out there for this game, but as of v0.4.4.1 none of them are really reliable: there is no Wikia for this and what you hunt out will be from the forums. TFGS "Discussion" thread for this game has some guidance, but it's piecemeal if you're looking for every single transformation possibility.

In the end this is a game you can try and breeze through only to find yourself on a bad ending path you never realized OR a game you can commit multiple days to and be really amused by what you find as you grind through it: there is no middle ground. Sadly though I haven't figured out yet if this is a discontinued game or the game creator just stopped updating their TFGS entry...

Definitely worth a look. Recommended.

I'm with those that don't understand the poor reviews for this game.  It's an excellent piece of work that requires you to have an attention span a little longer than is required for a twitter post.  Sure some of the maps could have been condensed a little, and the random encounters can get in the way (like so many other rpg's), but it's clear that a great deal of effort went in to the making of this and it deserves the people who play it to put in a little effort too.
