This game was designed for RAGS 2.4.16.0 or 2.6.1.0! Using any other version of RAGS and especially any beta version will certainly result in messed up text if not outright crashes. As of 0.803 you may have some success with 3.0.60.0 which will be nippier at the cost of needing to update the text to html each playthrough, and formatting issues mainly with the boxes. I don't reccomend it though as it has a tendency to have more memory errors.
No Haven is a side game to the dungeon crawler Whorelock's Revenge (formerly Deeper Dungeons: Enhanced). Here you have command of a small group of slavers initially and from there you can send out your men, woman, assorted fantasy races, monsters and so on out on various assignments to earn gold, supplies and slaves.
The current state of the game is currently in beta and is in active development with a great deal still to come. For a smut game this is both complex and heavily based on managing a whole bunch of RNG. If you are having problems understanding the gameplay please read the in game documentation for help which is available and I'm always ready to answer questions on the forum here or elsewhere. Well aware though that this is not going to be for everyone so if you're looking for a more straightforward experience this may not be for you.
Please visit the discussion thread for further details.
If you're having trouble with rags or if the file claims to be invalid please check out the help guide on my tumblr. This now also includes links which can potentially improve the rags engine.
I can't opereate 2.4 or 2.6 any help with that please? The game is not working at all at 3.+
Despite the downright glacial development pace, it's pretty clear that the dev loves their game despite it being on the engine equivalent of a monkey's paw. I've been playing No Haven since easily 2017, before I found TFGames, and it's changed a lot over the years for the better. Hell, it's the only game I've managed to play on RAGS for an extended period of time, even when RAGS development itself went to shit.
That being said, I hope that the dev comes to the same realization that Monolith did when making Shadow of Mordor/War, and puts a little more emphasis on the real stars of the show, your slavers. The game itself can be boiled down to throwing dice at a man reading an incredibly British book, where he glances over his big round spectacles at the results and decides whether you get an interesting snippit and a candy or a kick to the nuts and a brief diatribe about how hard you fucked up with varying degrees of intensity and vinyl model theft. The game mostly thrives on your imagination to fill the gaps outside of those interesting snippits, and that's fine, because what is written is enough lore wise to be engaging.
But, to finish the review so it's not a million words long, this review is being made as of .962, and such a comment is subject to change, much like my older complaints (for example, it used to be waaay easier to lose a high value slaver, even on a success). On a good day, it's an 8/10 with solid, sometimes very cheesy writing, but on a bad day those cascading failures can feel like a 6/10. So, final review score of 7/10, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you like pulling the slot machine arm.
...Oh, and there's something about slavery too. It's lovingly built, lots of training types, only feminization so no building a giga-chad himbo yet, you'll probably forget about them once you put them on a role or sell them off. Most interesting bit in my opinion is the option to turn a slave into a slaver, which is a good reminder that even with the setting tone, it does run on porn logic, just hardcore BDSM porn logic. Enjoyable, doesn't take itself too seriously.
And make sure you save frequently, with different files in the same folder. It'll save a lot of hassle.
I'm curious how many people have lost their saves due to the slow loading through rags because of that start sequence ([Continue] > "I just want to load a save game." > "Do you want to save your current game")... "NO, as I have just selected, I just want to load a savegame!"
The game loads so slow sometimes especially when you've been playing the same save game for 30+ hours. So things start to blur together through the loading sequence and before you know it, you've saved over your game.
Honestly, I've played this game off and on over the years trying to like it(which believe me, there is A LOT to like), but the loading process and the over all games performance distracts too heavily to the point where you don't want to keep playing. You grind and grind and grind to try and get to certain parts because you've played it a lot but always seem to run into some serious problem or another. Honestly, the process to play this game plus the bright white constant screen is too painful. Even if you change your system settings for darker backgrounds and all that, then the images won't show up. Not that they are super important but for a game that is as text heavy as this, those images really are needed.
Rating: 5.5/10 because of constant negative experiences when playing this game.
... For the record, I actually really like RAGS, but I don't think it's the right engine for this game, not at all.
Thank you, I really enjoyed your game No Haven.
I encountered only a few minor errors.
