Payback is a transformation text adventure written in the ADRIFT engine by Fuearye.
Waking up in the room you shared with your ex-girlfiend Erica, you find the following note:
"I bet you are confused right about now aren't you sweetie? Probably a little cold as well. "Do not worry your pretty little head over it." Remember when you used to say things like that to me? That is until you dumped me for that little slut Jessica. Well you crossed the wrong woman this time as I am sure you will find out. If you ever want to leave this place you will learn to endure. All those sick sex games I took part in just to keep you happy only to end up losing you anyway to a younger model. Well it's time you made me happy and trust me seeing you in some of the same positions will make me extremely happy. Do not do as I ask and just enjoy eternity there naked and alone. Love, Erica."
At this point the game is kind of short which is part of the reason for the low star rating. I'll give all the cons first, then the pros, and finally I'll add suggestions to make the game better for the author. I've bold highlighted and italicized the part that seperates user review from author suggestion so that people can start/stop reading if they want.
In its current Beta 1,0 version, downloadable to the left, there are just 2 outfits/scenes that you can access. I also did not like the clunky dialing mechanism used to access the scenes. I've seen it before in another Adrift engine game and didn't like it in either of these games, I won't explain why I didn't like it because that would be a spoiler. Moving on, another reason why I marked this down to a 3 instead of higher is that it is a very linear progression.
What I did like is that for the content that is available its obvious quite a bit of work went into it. Furthermore, even though the progression in its current format is linear at least you do have choices mid-scene which makes it game-like.
That's all of my review for other potential game users. The rest of this review will be aimed at the author as an improvement suggestion.
Honestly, I am a bit disappointed because I see a lot of potential in this game. If the author had placed lots of hangers in the closet and made the player choose a hanger then it would be more like their choices were making an impact. The author could easily make each hanger/scene impact in a stats or real-transformation way. For example some hangers could make the player when not in a scene become more addicted to a certain type of sex or certain type of sexual partner, other hangers could impact the type of clothing choices they would make when finally able to exit the trap world, and other hangers could impact the type of job / life the player would have after exiting.
Just as an example of my prior point, if a player chose the schoolgirl outfit and then chose the stripper outfit (the two current outfits) and then chose say a trailor trash outfit this would lead to the character ending up as a high-school dropout that works as a stripper after leaving. Whereas if they chose the same first two but chose instead a playboy outfit then maybe they would end up as a nude model. Other combinations for instance could be schoolgirl / princess / slave which would turn the player into a spoiled rich kid that rely on men for everything and has become some old guy's kept toy.
With this system and enough outfits the possible replayability would rise exponentially because even if the individual outfit's scenes began to become jaded, the players would still replay it over and over just to try to find all the possible combinations. You'd probably need around 7-10 outfits minimum though for a decent sized pool of possible endings,
Also, I'd suggest adding at least 2 duplicates of every outfit type in the closet. That way a player could get an outcome where say stripper happened twice in the chain. If that happened then the end result would be more pushed towards different stripper endings. In this way you could semi reuse the outfit scenes as extra endings, except the scene would become part of their life, but without the extremes as the bad ends from choosing wrong mid-scene.
