Regen is a transformation text adventure written in the ADRIFT engine by Decker.
At least the rain's stopped.
It's been raining most of the week, making surveillance even harder than usual; when the rain comes down hour after hour, not pouring, not sprinkling, it's almost hypnotic. The minutes and hours fly by, and you shake yourself out of a trance every so often, reminding yourself you've got a job to do.
Anonymous, private eye. Sounds glamorous, doesn't it? In truth, you're not sure you could hack any other profession. Too undisciplined to be a real cop, too rough and pragmatic to do a lot else... might have something to do with why you're perpetually between girlfriends. That, and the hours.
This particular job didn't sound easy, but with the money she put up front, you didn't mind one bit. "Find my brother," the dame had said, and you assured her you would. You've got one thing going for you, and that's a relentless determination to see things through.
That was three days ago. A lot of legwork, a few bribes, a little hacking and one very illegal B&E later, and you've tracked the missing Zachary down to a mansion out in the middle of nowhere. He'd fallen in with good people: clean records, nothing but good PR, everything. A company calling itself Regen, Inc. had hired him on a temporary basis, with an option to take him on full-time after his probationary period. When his time came up they invited him out her for a retreat and a welcome party, as near as you can tell. That was a week ago, and he hasn't come out yet.
The delivery girl wouldn't take a bribe, so you've stalked the place out, waiting for an opening, but no opportunity's presented itself yet. Fine, I'll just have to make my own way in. You step out of your car and blink at the last few drops of rain, and look out at the mansion on the hill, the last place Zach was known to be before his disappearance.
Sadly, I can't get this to work using Adrift 3.9 or Adrift 4.0 Runner. I'm on Windows 8.1, and tried running the games via opening them through the Runner. It seems Adrift can't modify Windows 8.1 registry.
Too bad for me since Decker's other games are awesome.
