The Chosen One
by Kromar

Hi,

I'm a long time lurker here, and I finally got inspired enough to try to make my own game!

I'm new with RPG maker... actually, I'm new at making games and story and everything else related to that, but the point is that I'm still discovering how to use the RPG maker program and that there is a bunch of stuff that I don't know how to do or use...

I hope you'll like it!

Update! whoohoo!

you must play from a saved game from before the clothing store... It will be buggy as hell otherwise!

for the changelog, see the discussion link

You are a treasure hunter in search for... well treasures of course! You are currently broke because of all the women and alcohol.

While in seach for a mountain of gold in an old temple, you awaken the old divinity sleeping there... and that's when things get messy!

You: Jack Barnes! A 31 Y/O batchelor and one of the most famous treasure hunter in the world... at least in your mind you are.

Ardat: An anciend Goddess that you have awaken by accident.

Bathym: He is a SPOILER and a SPOILER because he is a follower of SPOILER

There's none! Deal with it!

disapointing that it hasn't been updated in so long is there a newer version somewhere?

The chosen one is best described as hints of potential buried under a mound of incompetence. There's a whole lot of map, but nothing to do, making it a time-waster to explore, items lack basic descriptions, showing a lack of effort, there are choices, but they seem to be completely meaningless and only gate off porn scenes at this point. The little "twist" towards the end of the current demo falls flat, and is poorly placed. You need to establish and build trust before a betrayal is impactful.

There's essentially little to no game here, and this looks more like something someone who was playing around to get a basic idea of how to use the software would have made before discarding it and starting a serious project: why it ended up online at all is a mystery to me, since the creator also abandoned it at this stage.

Honestly, it's not even worth playing as it stands.

Kromar I like the game, Please add the next chapter soon.

I found a bug.

After you wake up in the Priest's room and dress.  If you go back into the room. There is a message that says something like.

I can't leave naked . One is still dressed when it said that.  I even tried to take off the clothes  and put them back on. It didn't work.

I know there are small bugs in any complex sykstem. I think you have a great story and graphics.

This is looking promsing (although not something I really want to play), but there are four problems so far.

1. The volume is out of control. I know that RPG Maker is bad with this, but you have to go and decrease the volume for music in battle, sound effects for skills and attacks and sound effects outside of battle. Adjusting the music down to a quiet enough volume for battles to not blast the sound requires that you can barely hear the music outside of battle. The barely audible music is very irritating, but it also makes me wonder endlessly about whether or not I should turn the volume off.

2. The story themes are iffy. The thing about a false goddess religion is a bit devoid of impact due to the fact that she never feels trustworthy and basically betrays you from the beginning. Plus, it seems like there is no reason why people would worship her since she had no power and had no way to plan her return to power if she was sealed off from the whole world. It also feels weird to have a treasure hunter who acts more like a thief who also gets brainwashed out of their original personality and who apparently is still supposed to unseal the goddess.

3. The town map is too boxy. There should be fences or something on the edges of the town instead of it ending on the limits of the screen. The town is also has too much space and some buildings (especially the guards' tower) are drastically varied in size compared to their appearance on the outside.

4. The beginning of the game has too many enemies and if you fought them all, you would most likely be dead. The starting area should be made smaller even if the game is going to have areas like this later on.

When I reached the part of this is the end of content dialog box I was so sad... so very sad.

I cant wait till this gets more flushed out with more content.

The writting is good
The progression is good
Game Play fighting is what you would expect from RPG maker
The scenes chosen for visual representation of the character are also good.

Looking forward to more of this game in the future.
