Divinion is adult fantasy game created with RPG Maker MV and a sequel to The Dark Lord Rises. Renan's journey continues, this time in eastern kingdom of Sunder, torn apart by the demonic invasion and a civil war. Will our hero and his companions, old and new, be able to stop the threat and uncover mystery of Renan's return to his original form?
Compared to it's predecessor, Divinion offers much more polished, non-linear and satisfying gaming experience, spiced with upgraded H-scenes.

 

 

 

If you have trouble starting:
 
The Betrayal at Sunder (main storyline) and Den of Evil (Trevir, The Camp) are good starting quests to get some experience and hard cash. Castle Wolfenstein can also be finished without single fight and yields generous rewards, though (optional) final boss might be a bit too hard for underleveled party. There's also small, optional dungeon right next to Ohsenford, suitable for low level parties.
Always stockpile at least 5-6 bags of Field Supplies and don't skimp on armor for your tanks.

Great sequel.

After the intro you are thrown into a small "open world", or at least a fenced in area with 3 cities and some other landmarks you can explore and accept quests.
All quests are logged in a quest tracker and the stories are engaging. No true "freedom"  aside from the order you complete the quest in (although you can make some choices),
but the open exploration did feel very satisfying.
Just talking to people, getting a few quests and deciding what to do next does feel nice.

At first I postponed playing this for quite a while because my memory of the first game "The Dark Lord Rises" has grown quite hazy, to the point I didn't remember how it ended at all.
But the MC starts with amnesia and only slowly remembers the happenings from the last game, which gave my brain time to allocate more resources into remembering.

If you're looking for good new games to try start with "Dark Lord Rises".

Remember, both installments are COMPLETET, how often do you see that here :3

The story manages to keep the player hooked, thanks to the many unpredictable twists and turns, but an attentive player can carch some foreshadowing here and there.

The characters are quite well written; even some of the ones with little "screen time" manage to be memorable and elicit emotions.

The writing is witti and enjoyable despise many typos. There are plenty of moments the protagonist braakes the fourth wall and the game is full of references (Harry Potter, Serei no Moribito, Asoiaf just to some of them) but it manages to use them well and not to ruin the immersion too much. 

The sex scenes are few and far between. The art is hit or miss. It's more a story game than a "fap game".

In case you like your stories concluded be advised: The game ends with the story still open and some of the threads of the previous game (Dark lord rise) still miss a resolution; a sequel is mentioned at the end of the game but it's not a sure thing.

After playing through the prequel, Dark Lord Rises, I thought Divinion would simply continue the story. Alas, the creator decided to invest their efforts in the RPG aspect of the game, which ruined it for me. I can stomach bad gameplay and bad sex scenes for an excellent story - that was Dark Lord Rises in a nutshell. But after picking up a certain lesbian girlfriend in a harbour tavern early in the game, I just couldn't deal with the unnecessarily bloated game mechanics. And let's not even talk about the graphics.

Personally, I'd remake the entire series as a visual novel (since gameplay is the kryptonite here), make the appropriate adjustments to how the plot plays out, and pick up someone to clean my text when I'm done with it. Alternatively, I'd create a cheat code that gives you an item that will instantly win any and all combat encounters for you. That would be the easiest way to fix this game, I believe.

This game has a fairly good story, but that story is marred by several very glaring flaws in its gameplay, and this review will cover that gameplay pretty much exclusively because it's the biggest problem with this game.

Much like the first game, Divinion is largely linear game, with the only point it opens up being around the middle, in Sunder. All the way through to the end of Sunder, the game has a fairly decent difficulty, with a few higher difficulty enemies that are completely optional. At least, the structure of the game makes you think they're optional. In reality, because there are no random encounters and you can therefore can only gain a finite amount of experience in the game, and because several times throughout the game you go through points of no return with no warning, it is entirely possible to go into the final section of the game underleveled and be unable to complete it. You also don't gain abilities by levelling up, instead having to go to specific skill trainers to teach them skills, which they can only learn if they have enough sp, and it's imossible to get enough sp to learn all the skills, which souunds interesting on the surface but screws you over if you dont pick specific ones. This isn't helped by the fact that the final area takes away all of your healing items and equipment and gives you only around 3-4 hp and mp healing items to complete the entire dungeon, which if you're underleveled simply isnt possible, because you'll have already used them all up by the time you reach the third section of this area, at which point you'll face a mandatory encounter that the characters play off as a joke but that's legitimately impossible to complete if you have no mp left. This is all incredibly frustrating, because before this point in the game you're constantly given free healing items and have access to plenty of shops selling both healing items and equipment, but as soon as you reach it that all becomes meaningless because those items are gone and as far as I know there's no way to regain them. It's probably very important to mention that because of this glaring issue, it's literally impossible for me to complete the game, so I don't even know for sure that that area is really the final area. What I do know is that being unable to defeat a slime and three generic cultists without near perfect rng because my characters are out of mp and I have no mp healing items has completely killed my enthusiasm for finishing the game.

One of the best games on this website, in my opinion. I really liked the continuation of the story from the first game (as well as the fact that there will be a third one), as well as the fact that there's multiple ending.
On complaints about combat, I sincerely don't understand them: there's only one really hard fight (one of the bosses) and one averagely difficult part of the game where you lose your items. Any other fight in the game is honestly easy, you literally can complete the game with crafting about 3-4 items. The only difficulty that I can see is when you develop your characters incorrectly and/or underequip them.
Overall, for me it was a cool, if somewhat buggy game (the first game had same problems with player being able to walk on the walls sometimes, some dialogue issues, but nothing really critical). And, as it was said before, don't forget to save before coronation :)
