[TSF] Tower ([TSF]塔)

This is my unofficial translation of yonyon's game [TSF] Tower, which can be played online using niconico's game service here: https://game.nicovideo.jp/atsumaru/games/gm13276 (note that the online version is in Japanese).

Gameplay is similar to some of yonyon's other games such as Zombie (https://tfgames.site/index.php?module=viewgame&id=396) and Zombie-R (https://tfgames.site/index.php?module=viewgame&id=687), whilst the setting is a loose sequel to God of the Top of the Tower (https://tfgames.site/index.php?module=viewgame&id=602). Battle are purely deterministic based on your attack and defence stats, so the main challenge of the gameplay comes down to fighting enemies in the right order to get to potions that increase your stats, shuffling equipment to do the best against specific enemies, and buying the right potions in town.

That crazy mayor has done it again! It seems the Demon King came to town whilst you were asleep. His mind control powers force all men to do his bidding! Luckily the mayor acted quickly and released a feminising gas over the whole town. After transforming into a woman, you're safe from the Demon King's powers. There's one snag... you don't want to be a woman! If you want to change back, you'll need to defeat the Demon King so it's safe to be a man again. But he's hiding away at the top of a tower full of brainwashed men. Defeat the men, turn them into women to remove the brainwashing, and climb the tower to face the Demon King!

You: An ordinary boy who prays to get closer to girls. This isn't what you meant, though!

Friend A: Your best friend.

Friend B: Another friend.

Town Mayor: The mayort of the town, who quickly tries to feminise everyone to protect them from the Demon King.

Demon King: The big baddie at the top of the tower, though no one's ever actually seen him.

Demon King's Four Heavenly Kings: The Demon King's chief (and only) loyal followers, helping to guard the tower along with the brainwashed men.

Yon-Yon has a well deserved reputation, but this game is not helping it.

Compared to zombie this is sloppy work.

The real beauty of those games was the math behind the puzzle, IMHO, and the quality of that part has dropped significantly.

And the excessive quantity is not helping either.

With every puzzle there's a point where complexity is no longer appreciated. At which point you either forgo analysing it and go with your gut feeling (pretty much "wasting" the puzzle) or just go into "work mode" and deal with all that complexity through an exhaustive analysis which just so happens to be exhausting and not fun.

Judging from the difficulty drop accompanying the scale increase, Yon-Yon seems content to take this in the "by the gut" direction. Which IMHO is a colossal waste of their talent...

And while this one is still better than "100500th sissy game v0.0.1c - the watch me drop it edition", I would not recommend it over any of the more or less serious contenders.

Its a survival puzzle game that has its own combat system.
Its also filled with bugs, though they are not in the way when playing. They're noticable though, as most of them involved graphics and will show them not loaded (black images).

The end result score depends on how much HP you are left with once you finish. After some severe testing and multiple playthroughs, I concluded lower scores are more impressive. Its an indication of having more difficulty and picking less optimal choices.
The game is very difficult when you decide not to buy any potion. A potionless run may seem impossible, but it turns out it can be done. Albeit you'll end up with a score around 1500.
The easiest time you have when you optimize towards buying the most expensive blue potion. This will in the end give you +21DEF. The highest score (over 7700) however can be achieved by taking the most expensive red potion route, granting you +21ATK.
Optimizing towards the purple potion grands +11 ATK and +11 DEF in the end, which maybe the best if you think you'll worry and don't want to think about it, which is fine. You can also choose this if don't mind taking sums of damage every now and then.
So it really depends on how you play--
Equipment is the only thing you don't have a choice in. Without equipment, you die.

Anyway, it’s an interesting game. The tower has 50 floors. Takes about 4 and half hours in game time to play, that is if you know what you're doing mostly. If you retry stuff and test stuff like I did, a single run will take much longer obviously. I am guessing it maybe 5 or 6 hours for the first timer, considering thinking and planning as well. That takes me to the only point of critique I have with this game (if I exclude the backend, bugs and programming I mean), the fact that it was a webapp / in browser / online game. It would require keeping cookies, temporary files etc. It would be very difficult for someone who uses private browsing and/or removes their cookies to keep progress. Games with a length such as this really require certainty with a save game file. Storing it in a temporary folder is a bad idea. I would therefore recommend people who create a lengthy game such as this to provide an official offline alternative.
The game features male to female transformations and a lot of randomization. Some of it makes no sense at all such as a character being different simply because you interact with them twice. There are a large number of questionable design decisions and bugs on the backend, but most of them you won’t notice till you open up the error log. (I don’t recommend this.) Its playable, but yeah—Good game. ;p

A little rough in spots, most notably some graphical errors, but nothing game breaking so far as I've seen.

If you've played other yonyon games, you know what to expect: A silly romp of turning random guys into random girls. Plus some cosplay.
